Police call for public help to track RAV4.

A FAMILY in the Rockhampton district faces an agonising wait for DNA testing to confirm the identity of a body found in a burnt-out RAV4 on Saturday.

The remains have been taken to Brisbane for DNA and dental testing to confirm the identity of the person.

The deceased is believed to be a female from the Rockhampton region and police have contacted a number of people regarding this possibility.

Regional crime coordinator Acting Inspector Darrin Shadlow said police were calling for information from anyone who may have seen a 1998 model blue-coloured RAV4 in the area north of Yeppoon between Friday, May 7, and lunch time the following day.

Two local fishermen came across the burnt-out vehicle in remote bushland near Fishing Creek Road about 12km north of Yeppoon about 12.30pm on Saturday.

People who may have seen the vehicle are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Police were also expecting the results of a post-mortem on a 47-year old man found in his apartment on Pauline Martin Drive in Wandal at 7.30am on Sunday.
