AFTER struggling to find their feet in the first three games of the Queensland Basketball League, the Hog’s Breath Café Cyclones have struck back with a victorious triple-header.

Cyclones scored their first win of the QBL against Townsville in the last round and continued to pull that form through on the weekend to win three from three games.

Recently-signed Tegan Cunningham slipped into her role as small-forward with ease to take 32 points and 16 rebounds in the first game against Maroochydore Clippers on Friday night.

“Tegan had a massive three games and was just good with a lot of points and rebounds... which really made a difference,” coach Matthew Neason said.

Cyclones were up comfortably 49-33 at half-time and the Clippers couldn’t bridge the gap or match the fast pace of Rockhampton, with the scores ending at 92-60.

Daphanie Kennedy stepped up to her leadership duties again and took control of the game with 23 points and eight rebounds.

“She set the tone for us defensively and brought a lot of energy – it was an area we wanted to work at and the team just fed off her energy,” Neason said.

Cyclones had tasted the back-to-back wins and in the second game on Saturday night, so Caboolture Suns stood little chance against the new power team.

It was an easy win for Cyclones who cracked the century on their opponents and claimed the game 101-41.

And the game was in Cyclones’ hands right from the first quarter after claiming 30 points to Caboolture’s nine.

Fiona McGrath sneaked in 19 points with a 75% success rate in the free throw and seven rebounds.

American import Kennedy continued her top form as the highest scorer of the game with 24 points while team-mate Cunningham tallying 22 points and 21 rebounds.

In the last game yesterday against Bundaberg Bears, the Cyclones hit the courts with incredible force despite an already physically draining weekend.

And what was expected to be the toughest game of the triple-header, Rockhampton drove the Bears off the court after making the century again – 108-68.

THE ROAD TRIP

Friday: Cyclones def Maroochydore 92-60

Saturday: Cyclones def Caboolture 101-41.

Sunday: Cyclones def Bundaberg 108-68.
