Snappers seize achance to learn

Gordon Jovic discusses his photography workshop with Sharon Mahoney and Valerie Korn.

VALERIE Korn has been obsessed with photography for 25 years, but that doesn't mean she can't learn more about it.

Valerie has travelled from Emerald to learn from one of the best wedding photographers in the world, Gordon Jovic.

Mr Jovic, who was named last year's international bridal portraiture photographer of the year, will hold a two-day workshop in Rockhampton.

It will start today.

Photography enthusiasts from Melbourne, the Gold Coast and Port Macquarie have come to Rockhampton for the workshop.

For Valerie, the workshop is the chance to pick up some additional skills and techniques.

“Hopefully I can pick up some more techniques and better and easier ways of doing things,” she said.

Mr Jovic arrived in Rockhampton yesterday afternoon and said the workshop would focus on the creativity and “artistic, low-key photographs”.

This will be his second-last workshop in Australia before he moves to the US, where he will conduct similar workshops.

The workshop has been organised by local photographer Sharon Mahoney, who has been organising similar workshops for the past three years.

She has previously organised for Shelton Muller and Photo Creative to travel to Rockhampton.

Valerie has been to all the previous workshops and said there was always something to be learned.

She said while her interest was mainly in photographing children, there was much to learn from a wedding photographer.

“Given the chance to work with any professional like Gordon is far above a privilege.

“They all have different techniques and there's always something you can learn from every workshop.”

All places are filled at the workshop at the Walter Reid Cultural Centre on the weekend.
