THE season draws to a close with a month of finals followed by the all-important grand finals ahead.

At the weekend some of the grades took shape.

Yeppoon Seagulls had won the minor premiership the week before, and so much of the attention was focused on the reserve grade matches and also the under-20s competition.

However, there were few surprises in the reserve grade as joint leaders in the competition, Yeppoon and CQU Norths, both had wins.

Norths had the toughest task against a spirited Tannum Sands.

However, two tries from Justin Peacock was one of the highlights as Brothers got home by 26-20.

It is not too often a player scores three tries in a game and walks away the loser.

It happened in the Gladstone Brothers match with Wallabys where Jamie McKay dotted down three times only to finish on the wrong end of a 46-26 score line.

Yeppoon had a close call in winning its match with Fitzroy Gracemere.

The Seagulls won the match 14-4, with the points for Yeppoon coming from tries to John Consten, Robbie Ryan and Liam Saxby.

Biggest win of the day in the Reserve Challenge Cup was reserved for Rockhampton Brothers who trounced Biloela 44-20.

For the Bretheren the points went to Sam McCoombes and Kenny Oakley, with two tries apiece, while James Bailey, Robbie Palmer, Sam Williams and Zac Moss all scored singles.

In the under-20s Challenge Cup high scores were the order of the day.

Rockhampton Brothers had too many big guns for Biloela, running away in a one-sided game by almost 60 points in a 76-18 thumping.

It was also an easy win for fellow minor premiership contender CQU Norths as they cruised to a 44-4 win over Tannum Sands.

There was little to play for in the Yeppoon and Fitzroy Gracemere game as both teams are outside the top four for the Challenge Cup, but Yeppoon was successful in collecting the points by prevailing 38-14.
