GOING FOR DISTANCE: Steve Jeffress gets into the swing of things during the Rockhampton Golf Club Pro Am tournament yesterday.
IT was a tough day at the office for Justin Maker – and he wasn’t even playing in the Ian Weigh Motors Rockhampton Pro-Am yesterday.
“We were delayed for an hour-and-a-half due to fog,” Maker said.
That left a number of golfers unable to complete their rounds and gave Maker, as the PGA Tour representative, the headache of rescheduling starting times to get the tournament back on track.
It also meant there were a number of golfers who slept nervously last night, because the cut can not be made until all rounds are completed.
“I just hope it is not foggy again,” Maker said at the end of yesterday’s frustrating round at Rockhampton Golf Course.
Apart from his own administrative problems, Maker is satisfied with the way the event is progressing.
Leading overnight were Matt Ballard and Tony Mcnaughton, who are nine under par.
David Bransdon sits a little further back but he is one of the golfers who will spend a long time on the course today because he is yet to complete his round.
“He still has two or three holes to play,” Maker said.
One player flirting with the cut line is last year’s winner of the event, Tristan Lambert.
“He is one over par and will probably just scrape in,” Maker said.
On Thursday night Kiwi Hamish Robertson was the leader after he blitzed the field with a six-under-par round.
Robertson is still near the head of the leaderboard but was unable to repeat that performance yesterday and had to settle for a par round.
Maker said the course was playing as well as was anticipated and he expected further good rounds to be played today and tomorrow, when the tournament ends.
“I’ve just got my fingers crossed there is no more fog,” Maker said.
