CAPRICORNIA boys yesterday cemented a place in the championship round of the Queensland Secondary Schools Championships at Rockhampton’s Elizabeth Park.
A goal to Gladstone’s Ben Romyn helped Capricornia to a 1-0 win against Metropolitan North in their second match yesterday, after going down 3-2 to Metropolitan West 3-2 earlier in the day.
Capricornia goalkeeper Jason Cupitt also played his hand in keeping his side in the match by saving a penalty.
The boys side now sit in sixth-place after two days of competition, with two wins and a draw to their credit.
Far North Queensland teams Peninsula (Cairns) and Northern (Townsville) have set the pace in the championship to take the top two spots.
The Capricornia girls’ side also played two matches yesterday, yielding a draw and a narrow loss.
The girls lost to Metropolitan West yesterday morning before drawing with Metropolitan East.
