THE Yeppoon Swans will be hoping the Glenmore Bulls are not about to put a damper on their 30th anniversary celebrations at Swan Park this afternoon.
Today, the Swans’ A-grade players will wear a special jumper that will be auctioned off at an evening function at the ground.
The only thing standing in the way of a great day for the club is Glenmore.
Neither team has played their best football in recent weeks but if the game goes down to the wire, then a desperate Bulls outfit should prevail.
The Glenmore side has slipped from a comfortable third place and finals contender to beingthe most likely of sides in the A-grade to collect this season’s wooden spoon.
With the competition the tightest it has been in years, with four teams on equal points for the two remaining finals spots available, it should be a fascinating round of football.
Glenmore has beaten the Swans at Stenlake Park but repeating that victory will be a tough ask.
However, not many could have predicted the Gladstone Mudcrabs would travel to Yeppoon and win either.
A good football team does not turn into a bad one over a couple of weeks and the Swans should return to form, but the Bulls will be hopeful they don’t make that turn around today.
BITS travel to Kele Park as the side in third spot on percentage but whether it can maintain that position is doubtful against a Brothers team that has not tasted defeat since April 17.
While a defeat will not end BITS’s season, they meet the Mudcrabs at Boyne Island next week, and a big defeat could, if finals spots do come down to percentage.
The match of the round will be at Gladstone where the Mudcrabs have home-ground advantage against Panthers.
While the Panthers were well beaten by Brothers in last week’s game, there were many positives to come out of the match as it was an improvement on their displays against Brothers in their other two meetings this season.
Gladstone produced its best display of the year last week to topple the Swans and go into today’s game with a rare two-game winning streak.
Going in to this match Panthers lead the Mudcrabs by a small percentage difference but that will matter little as it is the four points for a win that will decide which of the two sides will be watching the finals from the sidelines.
