Sam Munt from Mackay’s cheer squad Adrenalin Outlaws, is being lifted during a hip hop routine at the World Cup Cheer and Dance competition yesterday.
IT was like a scene out of the popular cheerleading flick Bring It On yesterday as the Adrenalin Outlaws performed a thrilling hip hop military-inspired dance-off routine.
Competition was sizzling at the Hegvold Stadium in Rockhampton during the World Cup Cheer and Dance Central Queensland Challenge.
Sam Munt from The Adrenalin Outlaws, a squad of 16 girls from Mackay, joined the sport about six years ago after being introduced by a friend, Kelly Tandy, who owns the club.
“Once I joined I haven't been able to leave her side,” said Sam, 28.
Eighty girls who were part of 21 routines travelled from Mackay to compete against the area's best cheerleaders and dancers vying for qualification to the WCC Asia Pacific Grand Finals in Brisbane this September.
There were four Rockhampton district squads competing, including the Aussie Cheer and Dance squad.
Sam said their squad had qualified for the grand finals in Brisbane, and after that, it's straight to a competition in Melbourne.
“We are planning a big celebration after our comps,” she told The Bully.
The Rockhampton district squads picked up several first and second places for their routines, including an impressive six first places for Aussie Cheer and Dance.
