Wayne Clifford should be a vital part of the Roos reserve grade line-up this weekend.
RYAN Spellman's return from injury late in the year has given Brothers Roos the confidence they need going into this weekend's reserve grade grand final.
Spellman broke his foot early in the season but decided to play on. However, the injury took its toll on his performances and eventually he was forced to the sidelines.
The Roos' Wayne Clifford has noticed an improvement in the team's form coinciding with Spellman's return a few weeks ago.
“Watching him play, I've noticed he really guides the team around,” Clifford said.
“I've noticed the confidence has lifted.”
Going into Saturday afternoon's final, Brothers coach Roy West has his full compliment of players on deck. He attributes the team's good form to the depth in the club at the moment.
“We've picked up some quality players that have gone into the A grade team and have pushed some good players back to reserves,” West said.
Brothers defeated minor premier Yeppoon in the preliminary final last weekend and are confident about the grand final, despite stumbling through the final quarter of the Yeppoon match.
“We took the foot off the pedal,” West said.
“We missed a lot of shots on goal. We need to take our chances if we want to win against BITS.”
BITS have the better record between the two teams this year. However, in their last encounter, in Rockhampton, Brothers were far too good, winning by 68 points.
Despite the big winning margin, West dismissed that as an indication of how this weekend's grand final will pan out.
Work commitments hamper travelling teams' playing rosters during the season, but come grand final time BITS would have their full roster of players available, he said.
BITS' strength had been their consistency over the past few seasons, and for that reason they would start favourites this weekend, he said.
“They've been the benchmark of the competition with their finals appearances over the years.”
A win this year by Brothers would be the first for the club in reserve grade since 1995.
That season Brothers won the reserve and A-grade competitions and are hoping they can repeat the double this year.
