Brothers goal shooter Amy Brown will need to be on target in next week’s final.
CARMEN Anderson led a last quarter onslaught to help Colts progress through to the second round of the Rockhampton A grade netball final series.
The combination of Anderson’s ability to find her shooters in the circle and Colts superior fitness proved to be the difference between the two sides in the minor semi-final on Wednesday night, after Frenchville Brumbies ran out of steam late in the final quarter.
At the final break Frenchville were only a couple goals behind, but as the final quarter progressed Colts extended their lead defeating Brumbies 46-33.
However, despite the loss, Frenchville captain Alysha Kuhl was happy with her side’s effort.
“We didn’t play too bad, it just didn’t seem to be going our way,” Kuhl said.
The return of Keanna Hopkins to the Brumbies starting line-up was a boost to the side and the centre court player showed no signs of distress despite playing with a broken finger.
In the major semi-final, Bluebirds Hawks powered into the grand final after their 58-39 win over Brothers Crimson.
Crimson co-coach Renee Kinman put her side’s loss down to a combination of things.
“They played really well. We made some bad decisions and they got some turnovers,” Kinman said.
Brothers now face Colts next Wednesday night in the preliminary final and will need to contain Anderson in the centre court if they are to gain a rematch against Bluebirds in the grand final.
“We’re going to have to work hard all over the court, but they are particularly strong in the centre court,” Kinman said.
