Firefighters work to free Alan Rothery from the cabin after the semi-trailer he was driving struck a tree and rolled into a ditch south of Dululu yesterday.
CQ COMETS forward Alan Rothery is in doubt for this weekend's game after the semi-trailer he was driving hit a tree and rolled into a ditch yesterday.
The 28-year-old was trapped in the badly crushed cabin of the vehicle for more than two-and-a-half hours at the scene of the accident, 1km south of Dululu on the Burnett Highway.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said Alan suffered pelvis and leg injuries, but was taken to Rockhampton Hospital in a stable condition.
She said the truck also leaked a small amount of fuel after the crash.
The accident occurred about 1.20pm.
The former NRL player only returned from suspension to play his first game of 2011 in the Comets' victory over Easts in Brisbane last weekend.
CQ Comets coach Wayne Barnett said Alan's brother Clint, who also plays for the Comets, travelled to the accident site.
Barnett said the brothers were both pencilled in for this weekend's match.
“We'll just wait and see how he and Clint pull through,” Barnett said. “I've known Al for four years. He's a good bloke.
“Hopefully he'll just have a few scratches.”
It is believed emergency services from Rockhampton and Mount Morgan attended the accident.
A Queensland Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said firefighters cleaned debris off the highway.
