WINNING a national film competition for secondary students gave Faith Appleton direction to what she wants to do for a career.

The Central Queensland Christian College Year 12 graduate won $10,000 for her three-minute short film about what it is like to be a primary school teacher.

Miss Appleton said she entered the myfuture Best School Video competition after being encouraged.

“I’ve always been interested in film,” she said.

“My parents encouraged me and some teachers encouraged me to have a shot, so I thought why not.”

Miss Appleton interviewed primary school teacher Jacqui Toohey for the film, spent about five hours gathering shots and collecting information, three hours of cutting and editing, before getting the final product.

This couldn’t have been an easy feat to accomplish for someone in their final year of high school and with eight younger brothers at home.

The win has led Miss Appleton’s decision to study a Bachelor of Multimedia at Central Queensland University. She had originally planned to work for six months after Year 12, which she completed last year, and then go travelling overseas.

But it seems that fate had other ideas for Faith.

She is also working part-time for Pure Design Studios doing video-editing.

As for the future, that’s to be unravelled.

“I’m really involved with the church here and the TV ministry (Peace Christian television online in Australia),” Miss Appleton said.
