IN TOWN: Glenzeil director Brian Gabriel has relocated to Rockhampton to open an office for his construction business in Central Queensland.
CENTRAL Queensland is the new window of opportunity for Glenzeil director Brian Gabriel’s commercial construction business.
Having made the move to the region from the company’s Gold Coast base, Mr Gabriel is in the process of setting up Glenzeil’s Rockhampton office along Victoria Parade.
The company has grown into a major player during the past 21 years, and has a long list of major projects (see accompanying fact box).
It employs 80 staff and the hope is the Rockhampton office will quickly grow and enable the firm to service Central Queensland.
“This is our first office outside the Gold Coast,” Mr Gabriel said.
“We feel there is a lot of growth in this area.
“We had planned to make the move into Central Queensland in 2008, but the global financial crisis put a halt on that,” Mr
Gabriel said.
He said the company saw Rockhampton as Central Queensland’s business capital.
“We think there’s enough work coming for all the builders here,” Mr Gabriel said.
That assessment is based on “the sheer amount of investment in the mining sector” and Gladstone’s outlook.
Mr Gabriel is settling in at Yeppoon and a very different pace of life to the Gold Coast.
His wife will join him as soon as their youngest daughter completes her Year 12
studies.
“I think Yeppoon is really nice,” Mr Gabriel said.
“I was born and grew up on the Gold Coast, and Yeppoon reminds me a lot of what the coast used to be like 20 years ago.”
