Katter casts eyes on Callide

Tags: bob katter

EYES have been cast on the State electorate of Callide for support of maverick Federal politican Bob Katter's Australian Party candidate who is touring Central Queensland this week.

Mr Katter will tour the Callide seat, visiting Biloela, Dululu and Monto over the next two days with endorsed candidate, Steve Ensby.

Joining them today was Carl Rackemann who will be the candidate for the neighbouring seat of Nanango. Rackemann is a third generation farmer and former test cricketer.

The team will meet with Dululu residents tonight at the Dululu Town Hall at 7pm.

"Our Party is not interested in winning seats for the sake of it. The Australian Party is interested in taking seats to put an end to incompetence and to ensure the Queensland Government stands up for Queensland's interests," Mr Katter said.

"The Opposition Leader has been described by his own party as the most hated man in the bush.

"That is because he stood up for his own interests and political career at the expense of his people.

"The Australian Party, with Steve Ensby, will turf him out and ensure that the residents of Callide have a representative who will stand up for them in Queensland Parliament."

Coal seam gas mining, which is expanding at the expense of agricultural and farming land, is a key concern for residents of the large rural seat.

Katter's Australian Party has released details of its policy to restore the balance to landholders by implementing a one year moratorium on new coal seam gas mining projects, prohibiting 'fracking' on the Great Artesian Basin and requiring mining companies to obtain permission before entering properties.

"The Australian Party recognises that mining is an important part of Queensland's economy but it should not be pursued to the detriment of its agricultural and farming industries," Mr Katter said.

Steve Ensby said that he was determined to provide an alternative to the Labor and Liberal Parties which had failed to protect landholders.

"The financial and personal devastation caused by the policies of the Labor Party on the people of Callide is unforgiveable.

"Additionally, the Liberal Party under Campbell Newman has adopted Labor's plans and are no different.

"Only Katter's Australian Party will ensure coal seam gas mining does not destroy Queensland's food production," said Mr Ensby.
