ROCKHAMPTON'S Estelle Paskin's caring nature was rewarded yesterday after she was given a Queensland Health Australia Day Achievement award.

One of two recipients from Community Health to receive the award, Estelle said she was very humbled by her nomination as a home care worker.

For more than 15 years Estelle has cared for the elderly, who sometimes are the same age or younger than her, Homecare Services manager Liz Cullen said.

"She's very consistent and really cares for her clients so we're very proud of her," Liz said.

Liz said this was the reason they nominated the quiet achiever.

Estelle said if it wasn't from the support of her co-workers none of it would have been possible.

"I really enjoy the job and the interaction you have with them, there's a lot of appreciation and satisfaction," Estelle said yesterday.

Estelle said she visits nine to 10 clients and provides in-home help to frail elderly clients to enable them to remain in their own homes instead of being prematurely admitted to residential care.

Wound-care nurse Jan Aust also received a Queensland Health Australia Day Achievement award for her tireless efforts over many years.
