BREAKING 9am: Police are searching for a man wielding a machete who robbed a Rockhampton bottle shop yesterday about 10pm.

Police said the man who was armed with a knife allegedly threatened a female staff member and stole a sum of money from the bottle shop adjoining Kalka Palms Hotel Motel on Lakes Creek Rd.

The staff member was not physically injured during the incident.

Owner Max Brown said he had recently discussed possible armed robberies with staff so they were prepared for last night's incident.

"They're pretty tough," he said.

The man was last seen running north on Water Street.

He is described as having a New Zealand accent, being 180cm tall with a solid build.

He was wearing a black hooded jumper, black pants, and black gloves with a white shirt covering his face.

Anyone with information which could assist police with their investigations should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24hrs a day.
