TWELVE teams from the Central Queensland region congregated at the Don Ireland Swimming Pool in Emu Park on Saturday for a novice swim meet.

With 76 individual events and two relays, the novice meet gave swimmers a chance to compete at their level, which is a great way to start their competitive swimming careers.

"This means that the novice swimmers are in with a chance of not getting blown out of the water," Emu Park Swimming Club president Sarah Emery said.

Sarah said the club had fantastic support from local businesses and groups for the club's first meet sanctioned by CQ Swimming.

She said sponsors for races filled very quickly.

"Evidence of the support was easily shown in the massive multi-draw raffle," she said.

"Close to 30 prizes and lucky lanes prizes were also all donated, with something like 50 kids going home with a prize of some description.

"It was great to see the club step up and pick up this meet, which is usually in Gracemere.

"We have a lot of novice swimmers and have received feedback from other clubs thanking us."

Sarah said CQ Swimming was invaluable with its help pulling the meet together so quickly.

"Seeing the new families of our club take that first step and the kids swimming in their first ever meet was great," she said

"If it hadn't been in our home pool, the likelihood is that they would not have travelled.

"So, to get their feet wet at home was great to see."

Sarah said all the swimmers had a great time and the coaches provided positive feedback.

"As a club we were pleased with the outcome. But as long as the kids had fun, that's who we were working so hard for.

"It's all about the kids."
