A WOMAN who tripped in the trolley bay during a shopping trip at Rockhampton's City Centre Plaza is suing Coles for $580,000.
Sherylea Maree Girle, 52, tripped over a raised border in the trolley aisle at the Coles supermarket as she went to get a trolley on June 11, 2009.
She suffered leg, arm and back injuries including fractured bones.
A claim lodged with the Rockhampton District Court said Ms Girle's injuries were caused because of a failing to warn of the hazard, no cordoning off of the area and an unsafe trolley bay.
She was wearing flat-soled shoes when she fell.
Maurice Blackburn principal Gino Andrieri, whose company is representing Ms Girle, said the incident should have been avoided.
Mr Andrieri said the hazard was removed after the fall.
He said Ms Girle was an active person before her fall but now struggled because of the pain.
Even basic tasks such as cooking dinner were a challenge, Mr Andrieri said.
A spokeswoman for Coles declined an opportunity to comment on the court case yesterday.
