PUBLIC NOTICE WADJA PEOPLE - NATIVE TITLE AUTHORISATION MEETINGS

Authorisation Meetings have been called by Queensland South Native Title Services Limited ("QSNTS") for the Wadja People (described below) in relation to the Wadja People's native title determination application (QUD 28 of 2019) ("Wadja Native Title Claim'') (previously QUD 422 of 2012). Authorisation Meeting #1: This notice invites all members of the Wajda native title claim group, who are all the Wadja persons descended from the following ancestors to attend Authorisation Meeting #1: Myra Freeman, Harriet Dutton, Sarah Dodd, and Lilla Livingston. Authorisation Meeting #1 will be held: Date of Meeting: Saturday, 21 September 2019 Venue of Meeting: Archer ABC Meeting Room, Travelodge Hotel Rockhampton 86 Victoria Parade, Rockhampton, QLD Time of Meeting: 9:30am (registration commencing at 9:00am) The purpose of the Authorisation Meeting #1 is to: 1. To consider and make decisions on the anthropological material and legal advice to: a. remove Lilla Livingston, as an apical ancestor for the Native Title Claim; b. include ‘the unnamed Wadjainggo woman on Tindale’s Woorabinda Sheet 9 whose granddaughter was Eva Tyson’, as an apical ancestor for the Native Title Claim; and c. change the apical ancestor description for ‘Harriet Dutton’ to ‘Biddy Dutton, mother of Harriet Dutton’ on the Native Title Claim. Those people who are descended from ‘the unnamed Wadjainggo woman on Tindale’s Woorabinda Sheet 9 whose granddaughter was Eva Tyson’, who are not already included in the Wadja claim group description may attend Authorisation Meeting #1 and will be given an opportunity to be heard but cannot participate in the voting. Authorisation Meeting #2 If authorised, this notice invites all members of the newly authorised Wadja claim group, who are all the Wadja persons descended from the following ancestors to attend Authorisation Meeting #2: Myra Freeman, Biddy Dutton, mother of Harriet Dutton, Sarah Dodd and the unnamed Wadjainggo woman on Tindale’s Woorabinda Sheet 9 whose granddaughter was Eva Tyson. Authorisation Meeting #2 will be held: Date of Meeting: Saturday, 21 September 2019 Venue of Meeting: Archer ABC Meeting Room, Travelodge Hotel Rockhampton 86 Victoria Parade, Rockhampton, QLD Time of Meeting: Immediately after Authorisation Meeting #1 The purpose of the Authorisation Meeting#2 is to: 1. consider and make decisions on any new terms and conditions of appointment for the Applicant; 2. authorise a person or persons to be (or continue to be) the Applicant for the Native Title Claim, to make the Application and to deal with matters arising in relation to the Native Title Claim (including any application under section 66B of the NTA , if necessary); 3. consider the anthropological material and legal advice relation to the claimed native title rights and interests in the Native Title Claim; and 4. if appropriate, authorise amendments of the claimed rights and interests for the Native Title Claim. QSNTS regrets that it is not able to assist with transport to or from the Authorisation Meeting, or with accommodation costs. However, light meals and refreshments will be provided to participants.
