10 new first-year constables hit Capricornia district

CAPRICORNIA Police District welcomed 10 first-year constables this week after they were officially sworn into the QPS at the Brisbane Police Academy on November 13.

Their previous experience ranged from being a dog handler, police administration, studying forensic science, sales, personal trainer and one went to the Olympic Trials for swimming.

The officers have completed an intensive 25-week Police Recruit Program and now commence the First Year Constable program at Rockhampton, North Rockhampton and Yeppoon stations. The officers will be mentored by experienced police officers throughout the year.

Constable Lauren Cox said she has wanted to become a police officer for about eight years.

"During that time I've done a lot of different things before applying to get experience needed for the job," Constable Cox said.

Constable Damon Thomson, who is posted to Yeppoon station said, "I am very excited to start in Central Region and ready and eager for the challenge ahead."
