10,000 car owners on board for VW class action

A MAJOR class action suit against Volkswagen, representing up to 90,000 car owners, was launched in the Federal Court this week.

The class action was launched on Thursday, a key Australian reaction to revelations of VW's use of emissions test defeating devices to lower their cars' emissions during testing.

Maurice Blackburn principal Jason Geisker said the case already had 10,000 VW, Audi and Skoda owners who bought the cars believing they had lower emissions than the reality.

The case will hinge on challenging the international parent companies involved, rather than the Australian subsidiaries.

VW owner Alister Dalton, Skoda owner Steven Roe and Audi owner Robyn Richardson were the leading participants in the class action.
