13 “bloody idiots” caught in CQ

CENTRAL Queensland police caught 13 drink-drivers over the weekend as it continues a crackdown leading up to the Easter break.

Central Queensland traffic co-ordinator Inspector Lyle Mitchell said 1726 drivers were breath tested by police in the region, with 13 found over the limit.

Inspector Mitchell said the highest reading was from a 20-year-old female driver who blew 0.169 per cent when she was stopped in North Rockhampton at 11.40pm on Friday night.

Over 200 people had been caught speeding since the operation began last Wednesday, with one driver clocked at 140kmh on the Bruce Highway, south of Marlborough, on Friday afternoon.

Inspector Mitchell said police continued to catch people in vehicles not wearing seatbelts, with 37 nabbed since Wednesday.

He said there will be a lot of traffic on the Capricorn and Bruce Highways over the Easter break and people should be patient.
