14 teams on green for Mayoral Trophy Tournament

LAWN BOWLS: Fourteen teams will fill the greens as the Rockhampton Bowls Club hosts the annual Mayoral Trophy Tournament on Saturday.

Competition starts at 9am, with each of the teams in the mixed fours competition to play three games of 16 ends.

Rockhampton Bowls Club men's committee president Tony Zonca said that with the standard of bowlers taking part, the final results could go down to the wire.

The Nick Jones team of Ruth Sorrensen, Ron Wigginton and Gail Bellert will be back to defend the title it won in 2016 but it will face plenty of competition.

"Teams being skipped by Michael Vagg, Col James, Tarz Davies and Kay McCrohon as well as the home teams skipped by Andy Johnson and Jeff Slater will all be hard to toss,” Zonca said.

"Any one of the other teams could quite easily get up and surprise everybody.

"There will be some quality bowls being played throughout the day.”
