16 things to do this weekend in Rockhampton and on Cap Coast

THE temperatures may have dropped in Central Queensland, but the entertainment levels continue to rise.

There is no shortage of things to do this weekend, regardless of age or interests.

Here are 16 things to do in Rockhampton and on the Capricorn Coast this weekend:

 

1. Yeppoon Fun Run 

Dust off your runners and sweat a little in the name of fundraising at the Yeppoon Fun Run.

The fun run event features a 5km run/walk along the Yeppoon waterfront, kicking off from the surf club from 7am on Sunday, May 15.

It raises funds for the Jason Rich Foundation which focuses on young driver education.

2. Relay 4 Life

ANOTHER opportunity to raise funds for a good cause and exercise is the annual Rockhampton Relay for Life.

1200 people from across the region will spend 18 hours walking around an oval, in costumes, laughing, having fun, all in the name of raising funds for cancer research and cancer patient support services.

3. Million Paws Walk

RATHER take your furry friend with you when you exercise? 

The Million Paws Walk fundraiser is also on this weekend.

Million Paws Walk continues to be one of RSPCA Queensland's most popular outdoor events for animal lovers and their furry friends. Get involved on Sunday 15 May 2016,  by enjoying a healthy walk at Rigarlsford Park in Rockhampton.

Funds raised through walk registrations and online fundraising goes towards vital programs, services and campaigns undertaken by RSPCA Queensland, as well as looking after the animals in our care.

4. Rockhampton Eisteddfod

The annual Rockhampton Eisteddfod, which showcases the region's young talent, continues this weekend.

5. Radio station open day

Independent community-based radio  station 4NAG is holding an Open Day on Saturday, allowing the community to see first-hand how live radio is put to air. Read more here: Wearing it loud and proud - 4NAG welcomes the community

6. 10 artists living in Livingstone.

An art exhibition featuring works of 10 artists who live in Livingstone shire will be opened this weekend: Mill Gallery exhibition opens Saturday

7. Shell World turns 10

This weekend the Keppel Bay Shell Club will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Shell World.

"We had a French couple visit not long ago who came to specifically buy a collection of Keppel Bay shells," President and shell collector for decades, Ena Coucom, said.

"We get the retired tour groups in from all over and they love it."

8. Black Sorrows hits Rockhampton

The Black Sorrows continue to be one of Australia's most enduring touring bands and a festival favourite. From humble beginnings playing inner-city cafes around Melbourne and selling albums from the boot of a car, Camilleri transformed the band into one of the most sophisticated ensembles in the country.

9. Reggae music

 Flamingo's On Quay has recently hosted two international R&B sensations, Iyaz and Mario, but tomorrow night will see Laza Morgan spice up the stage with some reggae flavours.

The international Jamaican/American reggae and R&B sensation will give audiences an intimate and up close performance in his first tour to Australia, adding the Rockhampton show to his tour because of popular demand.

10. Spirit of Anzac comes alive through plays written by locals

11. Community clean up of Three Rivers

At least 250 people in the Central Queensland community with 19-year-old Katelynn Clark's clean-up Facebook event, set to take on the remote beach's litter problem on May 14 from 9am.

12. Heat two of Beaches Got Talent

Inspired by TV show Australia's Got Talent, Yeppoon's Ross O'Reilly has started his own local version, giving performers an opportunity to have their voices heard and gain valuable experience along the way.

The O'Reilly's Real Estate, Rosslyn Bay Resort and Beaches Restaurant owner said the idea came about after he had been approached by many young local musicians looking for gigs at his venue.

13. Books, books and more books

IT LOOKS like just a warehouse of books and pre-loved clothes but the annual Lifeline Book Fest is so much more than that.

Every $1 raised means the national charity organisation can afford to put another person in the 24 hour crisis call centre to answer the calls thousands of Australian's make every day when they are in need help.

The Lifeline Book Fest, which has been an annual event for over 15 years, kicks off tomorrow at Rockhampton Showgrounds at 10am and runs throughout the weekend until midday Sunday. Read more here: Lifeline turns another page with book fest

14. Something for the motorsports enthusiasts

The third round of the Go Girls series comes to the Rockhampton and District Motocross Club this Sunday and local riders Stevie Waterson, Pippa Wilkings and Ella Gleeson can't wait to thrash the throttle.

The girls are fresh off a coaching clinic the previous weekend where they learned from the best in Ellyse O'Connor and Jemma Wilson.

15. Popular DJ returns to the Giddy

FROM humble beginnings, Combo has become one of the countries most sought after remix artists, servicing Ministry of Sound (Hussle and Downright), Onelove, Jump To This and Hype, as well as being added to the remix EP for the Triple Platinum selling record 'Swing', by Joel Fletcher.
