Police slam actions of two drivers doing 180 in 60k zone

David Stuart

SENIOR Sergeant Ewan Findlater, from the Rockhampton Road Policing Unit, slammed the actions of two drivers reportedly travelling in excess of 180km in a 60kmh zone in North Rockhampton in foggy conditions yesterday morning.

Snr Sgt Findlater labelled the act as completely stupid ahead of a statewide police crackdown on speeding, drink driving and drug driving over the Queen's Birthday long weekend.

"We have a state-wide road safety operation on this long weekend for the Queen's Birthday and we will be focusing on the fatal five: driver distraction and inattention, speeding, drink driving, not wearing a seatbelt and driving while fatigued," he said.

"We have also identified motorcycles as being over-represented in the crash statistics at the moment.

"We will be out and about on all of the major roads with speed cameras, breath testing and drug testing.

"The message is to drive to the conditions, especially in the fog and wet weather, plan your journey and take plenty of rest breaks."

Anyone with information which could assist police can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
