280-plus CQ mine workers locked out

MORE than 280 workers have today been locked out of their worksite at North Goonyella mine in Central Queensland.

The 10-day lockout at the coal mine, 40km north of Moranbah, is part of an aggressive industrial campaign by the mine's owner Peabody Energy.

The move comes as protracted negotiations for a replacement enterprise bargaining agreement have stalled after initially starting in October last year.

Mining Union vice-president Glenn Power said Peabody Energy was the first mining company in Queensland to use the aggressive lockout tactic since the introduction of the Federal Government's Fair Work Act this year.
