$50 million Gracemere Overpass' bridge opens today
IT has been a long-time coming, and after false starts and $50 million later, the new Gracemere overpass is set to be officially opened today.
The first vehicles are expected to rumble across the overpass from noon.
The Member for Keppel, Bruce Young, along with the Rockhampton Regional Council's Mayor, Margaret Strelow, Aurizon vice-president Clay McDonald and community representative Louise Ward will cut the ribbon and officially open the new bridge at 11am. The $50 million Gracemere Industrial Access Project, west of Rockhampton, is a significant infrastructure project for Central Queensland.
It will re-invigorate and help to energise the local economy, delivering new job opportunities in addition to improving road and rail safety.
Meanwhile, the opening of the overpass will allow Aurizon to permanently close two of the highest risk level crossings in Central Queensland.
