600 homes lose power for 8 hours

SIX HUNDRED homes in the Woorabinda and Baralaba areas were without power for more than eight hours today after a fault struck the power lines following an upgrade of the network.

Woorabinda resident Terry MunnsTerry Munns told the Bulletin he had been without power since 10am and had no word from Ergon on when the connection would be reestablished.

Mr Munns said he had called Ergon but received no response.

Ergon Corporate Communications Manager Bob Pleash said residents in the area had been notified of a
planned outage between 10am and 2.30pm to upgrade the network but this went “over time” until 4pm when power was restored.

Mr Pleash said at 4.30pm a high voltage fuse blew on a powerline at Olinda Rd between Wowan and Baralaba and the homes remained without power.

He said crews had restored power to all the homes by 6.30pm.
