60mm + deluge for Banana Shire

RAIN continues to pour across areas of the Banana Shire after showers began Thursday afternoon and have continued this morning.

The Bureau of Meteorology rainfall gauges in the region have recorded some heavy doses with Biloela recording 40mm so far, Thangool 47mm, the Banana Range 62mm and Kroombit Tops 50mm.

Rosa Hoff from the Bureau of Meteorology said there was a continued forecast for shower activity today and Saturday and also a chance of storm activity.

“It’s likely Biloela and the surrounds will have a wet start to the weekend with showers continuing into Saturday before easing off on Sunday,” Ms Hoff said.

“There’s a good chance of seeing some storms in the area but whether they’ll be over an exact location is difficult to pinpoint.”

Much of Central Queensland has received this much needed rainfall in the past 48 hours with many excited rural property owners turning to Facebook to express their gratitude.

Stephanie Harris posted around 8am this morning that her rainfall gauge in Taroom had recorded 22mm on the page ‘Who Got The Rain?’.

Neville Shoecraft also posted on the same page a huge 91mm recording for Theodore just before 8am this morning.

Ms Hoff said much of Queensland was benefiting from an upper trough.

“The rainfall we are seeing at the moment is due to an upper trough through the higher levels of the atmosphere which is providing that extra lift for that cloud coming around,” Ms Hoff said.

“The upper trough is increasing our chances of seeing shower and storm activity.”
