Australia's own gun problem is growing

THE Police Association of Victoria is calling for tougher penalties to tackle a growing gun culture in Melbourne.

The association says officers have on average been discovering guns in cars every two days in Melbourne's north-west.

Crime Statistics Agency figures released this week showed almost a threefold jump in firearm offences in the north-west in the past five years.
