Bill Shorten comes to Queensland to fire up the troops

OPPOSITION Leader Bill Shorten has rallied Labor Queensland's true believers, calling for a focus on "party, policy and people", in an address to the state party conference at the weekend.

Mr Shorten gave an address to the meeting on Saturday, dubbing the new Federal Government a "Frankenstein Government" determined to relive the mistakes of the Howard Government.

He told the party faithful that, just like the Australian cricket team, "what's true in sports is true in politics - there's no such thing as a dead cert (sic)".

"The series is wide open. And anyone can win. Anyone can win, delegates," he said.

He called on Labor Party members to bring more people from diverse backgrounds into the fold,

"We must develop policy that will make Australia a better place and offer a better, more sincere and more authentic vision for the future," he said.

"And we must rebuild the Australian people's trust in our movement."

His speech, which follows defeats at both the federal and state level, called on members to win the battle of ideas and the trust of the electorate.
