Boy critical after crash takes his mother and sister

AN EIGHT-year-old boy is fighting for his life in a Melbourne hospital following a crash that claimed the lives of his mother and younger sister.

The boy and his family were travelling through Rosedale in the Gippsland region when they were hit by a P-plate driver's car on Saturday.

He and 47-year-old father were airlifted to hospital while his 45-year-old mother and seven-year-old sister died at the scene.

On Sunday night, the boy's condition had deteriorated while his father was considered stable.

The boy's four-year-old brother escaped the crash with minor injuries and was being cared for by family.
