Golden girl Fox does it again in US K1 final
AUSSIE paddler Jessica Fox has added the K1 gold medal to her victory in the C1 event, becoming the first person to win both events at a world championships.
And in an extraordinary co-incidence, the success came 25 years after her parents - Myriam and Richard - both won the K1 final at the world championships, also held in the USA.
"To do it 25 years after my parents both won at the world championships in the USA on Savage River is really special - I think we will all be cherishing this moment," Fox said.
After blitzing the field in the C1 final, Fox faced a tougher challenge in the K1 event, beating British paddler Fiona Pennie by just 0.96 seconds. The Aussie won a silver medal in the K1 at the London Olympics. The C1 was not on the women's program, but is expected to be included for the Tokyo Games in 2020.
