Hockey urges state to drop tampons from GST list

TAMPONS will be a topic at the next Australian states and territories treasurers' meeting in July.

During ABC's Q&A post-budget special on Monday, Federal Treasurer Joe Hockey promised university student Subeta Vimalarajah he would urge treasurers across the nation to drop the GST from sanitary products.

A petition Ms Vimalarajah began online this month asking Mr Hockey to stop taxing garnered 93,000 signatures.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott said the government had no plan to remove the tax and it would be a state and territory decision. - APN NEWSDESK
