FORMER Home and Away hunk Todd Lasance is ready to get his nerd on at Supanova this weekend.

The Cloudstreet and Crownies star describes himself as a "closet nerd".

"I've always wanted to go just as a punter," he told APN.

"I'm a bit of a closest gamer as well. I'm a closet nerd.

"To be able to go and be on a panel and meet face-to-face with the fans, especially since it's in Australia, is pretty exciting."

The 28-year-old is appearing at the Supanova Pop Culture Expo thanks to his role in the acclaimed final series of the cult hit Spartacus, filmed in New Zealand for America's Starz Network.

Lasance received critical acclaim for his portrayal of Roman general Julius Caesar in Spartacus: War of the Damned, which aired earlier this year. He was nominated for a Saturn Award, which recognises the best in science fiction, fantasy and horror films and TV shows, for Best Supporting Actor on Television.

"It was cool to have people over there appreciate something else that I had worked on," he said.

"The show already had a major following.

"Its fan base is really strong.

"Because it was the final season we also felt the pressure of what was required to pull off this final moment. The support was really humbling. I couldn't have asked for anything better. It has been nice to reap those rewards after nine months of gruelling filming."

Featuring a cast of scantily clad, muscled Roman slaves and soldiers, Spartacus quickly earned a reputation for the tough boot camp actors had to complete before filming.

As well as learning sword fighting and stunts, Lasance followed a strict diet and exercise regimen to achieve zero percent body fat for the role.

Now back to a more normal routine and body shape, Lasance has just finished filming the ABC's upcoming war drama ANZAC Girls.
