Homeless man arrested over grisly park murder

POLICE in Victoria have arrested a 42-year-old man over a grisly murder in a Melbourne park at the weekend.

The man, believed to be homeless and sleeping in the city's Kings Domain gardens, was arrested on Monday in New South Wales.

Police said he was arrested after a woman's body was discovered by early morning walkers in the Victorian park on Saturday morning.

It is understood the woman was killed early Saturday morning, and some media have reported an unconfirmed sexual assault may also have occurred.

Detectives are still trying to find a man seen walking past the Melbourne Town Hall with the suspect just before 2am on Saturday.
