Man beaten nearly to death in Brisbane's CBD

A MAN is fighting for his life in hospital after being assaulted in the Brisbane CBD.

Police have set up a crime scene outside the Aurora Hotel in Queen Street after the 37-year-old was knocked out during the assault.

When paramedics arrived just after 4:00am on Sunday members of the public were already doing CPR on him.

He was taken to the Royal Brisbane Hospital for treatment.

Queensland Police are reminding the public that one punch can kill.

"The injuries are very serious and obviously the medical teams are doing the best they can at this stage," Acting Inspector Ian Park said.

"I would say, given the time of the morning in the city, there probably is a likelihood there is alcohol involved in what has happened.

"So the message as always is for people to try and take it easy, particularly over the holiday period."

Police have charged a man in relation to the incident.
