O2’s walking on air after BRW top-100 list mention
A COMPANY founded on the Sunshine Coast has been named in BRW's top-100 fastest-growing Australian companies for 2013.
O2 Environment and Engineering, a soil and water management consultancy, was started by University of the Sunshine Coast graduate Ben Starr and his former work colleague, Steve Dudgeon, in 2009.
The firm, which has 19 employees, came in at 82 in the magazine's list of fastest-growing start-up companies last year and was 35th in this year's list of fastest-growing companies.
Mr Dudgeon said the business had filled a niche, providing expert advice and solutions for large-scale construction and infrastructure projects.
"There's lots of companies that try and do everything in the environmental field, but we're very specialised in how we work," he said.
"We aim to be the best in the industry. We don't try and do lots and lots of things quickly and poorly. We try and do things very, very well."
Mr Dudgeon said the nature of the business meant that much of its work was away from the Sunshine Coast.
On the Coast, the firm has worked for the council in advising on water management for landfills.
"When you're on the Coast, you've got to be prepared to work elsewhere, but we appreciate the local jobs. Staff enjoy working on the local projects," he said.
O2 Environment and Engineering has offices at Peregian, Brisbane and in Vietnam.
The O2 Group employees 35 people in total across five environmental consultancies, including partner companies O2 Ecology, O2GIS, O2 Contaminated Land, and O2 Turbid, Mr Dudgeon said.
