Pinery bushfire victims to receive financial support

VICTIMS of the devastating Pinery bushfire in South Australia will receive extra financial support to help them recover.

Government assistance was announced yesterday for residents impacted by the disaster.

People eligible for the Disaster Recovery Payment, that is those who have lost their homes or been injured will receive a one-off payment of $1000 per adult and $400 for each child. Those eligible for the Disaster Recovery Allowance can access income assistance for up to 13 weeks.

The payments will be in addition to the Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements announced Friday.

Industry Minister Christopher Pyne thanked firefighters and rescue crews for their work and said it was a difficult time for those impacted by the disaster.

"The thoughts of all Australians are with those who have been affected by the Pinery fire," Mr Pyne said.
