Polls show Abbott Government out of favour with public

THE honeymoon is over for the Abbott Government, according to the results of two polls released this week, which show support for the Coalition has fallen since the election.

In the News Limited Newspoll released on Tuesday, support for the Coalition was down three points from its election-winning 45.6% result.

The results come after a similar fall recorded in the Fairfax-Nielsen poll released on Monday, which showed voter support for the government was lagging.

Labor's support in the Newspoll took up the slack, rising three points in the two-party-preferred stakes to 35%, up from its 33% election loss levels.

Support for The Greens has also fallen in the Newspoll, down two points to 10%, while voter backing for "others" rose from 11% to 12% - support likely directed to the Palmer United Party.
