Rocky band La Mont score slot at River Sessions Festival
FOR lead singer Mik Guinane and the rest of his band, La Mont, getting their name out there is what it's all about.
And as one of the three bands selected to play at River Sessions Festival, the extra exposure is bound to do just that.
Rockhampton's La Mont, alongside Mackay's Dugald Massie and Lloyd Saunders, took out the top three spots at the weekend's Battle of the Bands competition at Mackay Grand Suites.
"We are stoked; it's a great opportunity," Guinane said.
"We absolutely love performing and we were over the moon just to be playing out on stage."
He said La Mont's biggest inspirations were Foster The People and INXS.
Massie, a hip-hop singer, was "chuffed" with the turnout and humbled to take out one of the top prizes.
"Not all of it (hip-hop) is about shooting guns; a lot of it is very political," he said.
Massie said a lot of the inspiration for his songs came from life experience, making his lyrics hit close to home.
When it comes to performing alongside bands such as The Amity Affliction and Art vs Science at the Rivers Session Festival, Mr Massie says he'll just do what comes naturally and do his best.
