Small towns to win big with new incentives for doctors
SMALLER towns are expected to be the big winners out of a change to incentives for doctors to work outside the major cities.
Assistant Health Minister Fiona Nash on Monday announced the long-awaited change to the classification system was complete.
The change will see 450 small rural towns get more incentives for doctors to work there and 14 larger regional centres will no longer qualify.
Around $50 million in incentives will be redirected from places such as Townsville to towns such as Kingaroy to attract more doctors where they are most needed, Senator Nash said. - APN Newsdesk
