Tractor ride ends in court
A JOY ride on a tractor late on the night of September 27 landed a Rockhampton man in court and with a hefty fine on Monday.
Jeff Edward Eyles pleaded guilty to one count each of drink driving and possessing a weapon while under the influence of alcohol, after a neighbour dobbed him in to police.
Eyles told police he drank seven to eight pre-mix rum cans before getting behind the wheel of a tractor on a vacant property on Seymour Road at 11.30pm on September 27.
Police detected a strong smell of liquor on his breath before he recorded a blood alcohol content of 0.097%.
The informant called police for the second time on the same evening when they reported hearing eight gun shots coming from the property.
The 30-year-old told police he shot at a dingo five times with a Category B .308 rifle.
Eyles was fined $700 and disqualified from driving for five months and fined a further $600 for the weapons offence, with no conviction recorded.
