Lockyer Valley woman's home ruined by freak hail storm
AN ORANGE tarp is all that separates Lee Williams from the elements.
The Helidon woman yesterday was trying to figure out how she would pay for repairs to extensive hail damage inflicted on her caravan during a 15-minute storm on Wednesday afternoon.
"I've only got one window that didn't get smashed," Ms Williams said.
"All of the ceiling on my annexe is wrecked with all holes in it.
"I'm not going to be able to use my annexe again which sucks because that is my lounge room."
Ms Williams has rented the van on a Helidon Dip Rd property for the past five years.
"Since my partner passed away I haven't been able to keep the insurance up."
The severity of the storm took her by surprise.
She cowered behind a couch in her carport as the hailstones fell.
"It was hitting my feet and that was painful."
State Emergency Service volunteers were quick to respond to her call for help, tying a tarp down over her caravan and annexe before nightfall.
The possibility of more wild weather was one that concerned her.
"If it hails again I wonder if it will go through the tarp.
"I'm going to be struggling for a while"
