Woman murdered in Brisbane CBD

POLICE remained at the scene of a suspected murder in Brisbane's CBD on Sunday night but few details were known about the female victim.

The young woman's body was discovered by a passerby near a set of stairs at Wickham Park early Sunday morning.

The southern end of the park, which is across the road from the Roma St Parklands, remained cordoned off.

Albert St was closed between Turbot and Wickham Streets.

Detective Acting Inspector Thomas Armitt told reporters in Brisbane police were in the "very early" stages of the investigation.

He wouldn't be drawn on the victim's injuries but confirmed police were treating the death as a homicide.

He said the victim had not been formerly identified.

Anyone who was in the area between 3.30am and 4.30am has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
