"Gutless" man lands in prison for punching woman in face

A MAGISTRATE has slammed Isaac John Prider's behaviour as "gutless" and "cowardly" as he sentenced him to six months imprisonment.

Prider pleaded guilty in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Thursday, November 26 to breaching a court order.

The court heard on September 19 Prider got into a verbal argument with a woman, which escalated to physical violence.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Darrell Dalton said Prider punched the woman in the face about six times, leaving her with a black eye and two cuts.

The order was served in July. Magistrate Jeffrey Clarke said Prider was part of a "very small minority" of the community which needed the court to tell him to respect women.

He said Prider had been dishonest about the incident and should be shamed for his "gutless, cowardly behaviour".

Prider was sentenced to six months imprisonment with a parole date of January 21.
