A night on wine proves costly for Rockhampton motorist
ROCKHAMPTON'S Revel Ezzy was revelling in the aftermath of a classy evening on the boxed wine, until he started to see blurry tones of red and blue.
The young Rockhampton man made the mistake of getting behind the wheel after a solid 2.5-litre effort on the ever-popular Fruity Lexia cask wine on August 29.
Ezzy pleaded guilty in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court yesterday to driving under the influence of alcohol late last month.
Police officers pulled Ezzy over on William St just before midnight on August 29. When the officers conducted a breath test, Ezzy returned a blood alcohol concentration reading of 0.212.
In his defence yesterday, Ezzy told Magistrate Michael O'Driscoll: "I don't know why I drove."
Mr O'Driscoll fined Ezzy $1600 and disqualified him from driving for 14 months.
"You were a danger to yourself and other road users ... don't let it happen again," Mr O'Driscoll said.
