VIDEO: Whales and dolphins frolic for ferry travellers
DAY-TRIPPERS aboard the Freedom Fast Cats' ferries have had a whale of a time out on the waters of the Capricorn Coast in the past week with various sightings of humpback whales and dolphins.
On Sunday, July 19, the first whale of the season was spotted in the distance, just a few kilometres south of Keppel Island.
Since then part-owner and operator of Freedom Fast Cats Max Allen Jnr said there had been a number of sightings of marine life.
"We always expect to see some whales and dolphins around this time of the year," he said.
"The first sighting was two weeks ago and since then they've been popping up every so often. I saw a small one a few days ago around Mild Island and another one was seen by our other driver a few days before that.
"They're normally very playful and come right up to the boat which is a bonus for the guests on board because people sometimes forget that these creatures pass through here and stay here for a short time.
"Next month we'll start seeing a few more of them coming into the bay.
"The people who take the day trips with us around this time of year have a better chance of seeing these animals so although the weather might be a bit cooler it's definitely worth it if you get to see whales or dolphins."
