Court: Accused killer had fling with dead woman’s boyfriend

A MOTHER of five accused of killing a woman and her brother had a fling with the dead woman's boyfriend beginning the night of the alleged murders, a Brisbane Court has heard.

Danielle Fels has been charged with the cold-case murder of brother and sister - April and Ian Bailey - at their Deception Bay home in April 2004.

She has also been charged with arson of the home where the bodies where found.

During a committal hearing for the three charges in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today, April's defacto partner at the time of her death, Jason Troy Minors, told the court he was picked up from a friend's place by Fels, previously known as Danielle Postlethwaite, on the night of the deaths and they "spent the night together".

"Really, you were just looking for some comfort?" defence barrister Catherine Morgan said.

The court heard the pair travelled to Millmerran in the Darling Downs to visit Minors' relatives shortly after the alleged murders but Minors didn't see Fels again after the trip.

The alleged murders of April and Ian Bailey remained a cold case until 2016 when Fels was charged over the deaths.

Mr Minors today told the court that when police interviewed him more than a decade later about his involvement with Fels in 2004, he looked at things she had said at the time "differently".

He told the court Fels asked him about the investigation and was disinterested at times but other times took notes.

"In 2005, I wasn't truthful to the police ... but later things did come to light, like the things she was asking me about like the knives and that," Mr Minors said.

"The only person who asked me about knives was Danielle."

The court heard at the time of the alleged murders, Ian and April Bailey and Mr Minors were regular users of speed and did not have regular work.

April and Mr Minors made pornography, which they sold online and April worked on a sex hotline, the court was told.

Mr Minors will return to court at a later date continue his evidence.

The committal hearing will continue for the rest of the week, with 13 witnesses to give evidence.
