Acoustic duo grows Rockhampton gigs and playing tonight
GROWING up in Blackwater as good mates, Simon Atfield and Matt Huxley have been in a few bands together over the years.
Their latest act, known as Vegas to Vancouver, is a common name among the Rockhampton and CQ live music circuit, building on their experience one gig at a time.
Simon spoke to Pulse recently about the band which he described as a sound influenced by the likes of Ed Sheeran, City and Colour and Frank Turner.
"We've been in bands together, Matt and I, for about nine years. We basically moved to Rocky in the last couple of years and started the band 13 or 14 months ago," Simon said.
"So we've been playing in lots of pubs. We started playing at the Cambridge Hotel and then we signed up with Platypus Road Entertainment who has helped us out with playing other venues.
"Our live set-up consists of two acoustic guitars and a stomp box which fills in the sound a lot and helps when you've got a dance floor."
With Matt on lead vocals and guitar while Simon plays bass, the 23-year-olds were hoping to make their weekend gigs a full-time career locally.
"We'd love to get a lot more shows, we're looking at recording soon as well and we're constantly writing new stuff," Simon said.
"We put in a lot of work to both bands (Simon is also in post metal core band A.M.P)."
